Folk art

One of the nicest stores on Obchodná in Bratislava is the ÚĽUV Gallery, home to the national Centre for Folk Art Production.

The building features a courtyard where various crafts people demonstrate their techniques.

Here are some charming lifesize folk figures at the entrance to the courtyard.

The Gallery sells a wide range of beautiful Slovak crafts. They take all major credit cards. Alas, they do not have shipping services, so you're on your own for gifts you want to send.

The Gallery is located on the street that long served as the main commercial street for the city, during the Communist era and before the restoration of the historic old town in recent years. It is now filled with souvenir shops, clothing stores, and bars. Here is a shot looking south, with Bratislava castle visible at the end.

The Centre has a smaller retail store on Námestie SNP 12, just north of the Pedestrian Zone in Old Town, to the left here of the KFC store.

The web site for the Centre, with locations throughout Slovakia, is here: http://www.uluv.sk/en/web/home/
