I stopped this morning at the Fulbright offices on Levica 3 to check on the books I shipped over via diplomatic pouch. They share a well-kept building with other educational activities. The building even has a lift. One of the staff members advises Slovak students on Fulbright options and other study abroad opportunities, which are in great demand.
The building housing the Fulbright offices has a nice view of a park area and – no surprise – several new construction projects. They are outside the perimeter of the restored Old Town, but renewal is a big part of the scene here, too. A major tram stop at the corner makes this easy to get to. It's just two stops beyond the stop for my classroom building, which will make hauling those books back to the department a little easier.
One of the most prized sets among the book purchases is the Oxford Encyclopedia of Aesthetics. My host department now owns one of only two sets of this Encyclopedia in the entire country, thanks to the Fulbright money. Thanks to Oxford, I got a hefty discount with my membership in the American Philosophical Association. It’s nice to see our U.S. tax money going to such a worthy purpose, the cost of a few nanoseconds of a certain war in the Middle East.
